In this blog series, we are exploring the various benefits of cash pay physical therapy when compared to traditional, insurance-based PT clinics. Today, we will focus on two specific advantages. Let’s dive in!
No Delays In Care
With insurance-based PT, many insurances require authorization before allowing a patient to be seen, often taking up to two weeks before approving visits. Once these visits are used, the physical therapist has to submit a request for additional visits, which, if approved, could also take multiple weeks to be authorized. The patient may lose momentum in their progress or may experience setbacks due to waiting for approval for more PT visits. Insurance companies often implement visit limits, in which they only allow a certain number of visits per year, no matter the diagnosis or the number of injuries.
With cash pay physical therapy, you can immediately start PT and continue PT without interruption or delay until your goals are met. There is no standard or limit to how many visits per year you can attend. You have the freedom and ability to schedule your evaluation at your earliest convenience, and to receive treatment in a continuous and uninterrupted manner until you have achieved your goals.
Direct Communication
Many insurance-based clinics are part of a larger company and may outsource their phone calls to a third party organization, causing direct communication with the local clinic to be difficult to achieve. Patients in these settings often see multiple different PTs and never really know who they will be seeing next. This makes it difficult to reach their provider if they have any questions or concerns between visits.
In a small business, cash-pay PT clinic, patients see the same provider each time and have direct communication through email, phone call, and/or text if they have any clinical questions or concerns.Because cash-based physical therapists only see one patient each hour, they are not seeing excessive amounts of patients every day. This allows for less provider burnout and gives PTs more time and ability to stay in touch with and check on their patients.
