What is cupping?
Cupping is a therapeutic intervention rooted in ancient Chinese medicine, in which a glass, silicone, or plastic cup is used to create suction on the skin. This suction allows for decompression of the underlying muscles and connective tissue (fascia). Because of this, cupping promotes blood flow to the compromised area, improves circulation, improves tissue mobility, reduces inflammation, and increases the body’s own healing mechanisms. Enhanced blood flow under the cups draws toxins away from the nearby tissues toward the surface for elimination.
Cupping has increased in popularity in recent years as it is a very effective tool used in physical therapy for pain relief and improved mobility of muscles.
